Overview
Freebuild is the building system used at Guild Provinces. It is not available at any other location. It allows players to freely place walls, gates, towers, crafting buildings, and the bastion building to create their own layout. Building is limited by two things: the Grid System, and the Fortification and Economic Points budget each province has. These limitations mean that builders must choose what and where to build wisely.
The image below shows the pieces and their footprints available for building.
In this image, black areas represent unused "air space." The thin gray line represents the outward facing "front" of the structure where you would find crennellations.
- There are 6 levels of structures available. Guilds can build structures based on their Guild Levels. All walls and gatehouses take up the same amount of space regardless of what level they are.
- Level 1: Palisade
- Level 2: Wood
- Level 3: Strong Wood
- Level 4: Weak Stone
- Level 5: Stone
- Level 6: Strong Stone
- Each piece can be rotated in 90 degree increments.
- Structures cannot overlap with any other object.
- Gatehouses are technically 2x2 but no object is able to be placed directly in front of or behind a gatehouse, so consider it a 4x2.
Maps and Grid Systems
Each guild province has a unique grid system upon which to build. Images of the Grids for each castle are linked below:
Order of the Original Faith's Keep
Where is the Build Menu?
The Freebuild menu is in the Guild screen [G] in the Provinces tab. Only the leader and vice leader can see the option to build from that menu. Use this menu to place your initial structures, then use the Architect's Table for further upgrades of those structures.
The Bastion Building
In order to begin building at a guild province, a Bastion must be constructed first. If the bastion is demolished to move it elsewhere, nothing else can be built until the bastion is built.
The Bastion Building must be of an equal or higher level to every structure. A level 4 Bastion will not allow the construction of a level 5 wall, for example.
Who Can Build?
Only the vice-leader or leader can place scaffolds for building, or order upgrades. Any other player may place materials into the scaffold to build the structures.
To view the building menu, press G, and click on Provinces and click the "build" button.
A guild may build and upgrade structures up to their guild level. A level 4 guild can build up to level 4 structures, for example.
What Can Be Built?
Structures that can be built include:
- Walls
- Towers
- Gates
- Vendors
- Market
- Crafting Workshops for all Professions
- Farms, Lumbermills, and Mine resource areas
- Castle Keeper
Building Materials
Much like upgrading at nation owned castles, you will use common Building materials for building at a Guild Province. Building Materials:
- Granite
- Gneiss
- Limestone
- Logs
- Planks
- Long Nails
- Clay
- Lime Mortar
There are special resources used only at Guild provinces
- Economic Points: Each province has a set amount of these.
- Fortification Points Each province has a set amount of these.
- Privileges
At Economic Castles including Audunstede, Aquitania, and Skergard, these locations come equipped with fenced in mines and farm areas which do not require being built. If they are burned down or destroyed by the enemy, they can be rebuilt at the Architect Table for 0 fortification points.
Upgrading Structures after placement
After placing a structure from the Build menu, structures can be upgraded as normal from the Architect's Table. In order to activate ballistas on level 2 or higher corners or towers or bars on doors, or oils on walls, click the upgrade icon for that piece, and a grayed out icon will appear. Click it to turn it on.
Privilege
Privilege is an item costing 1,500 Contribution Points and purchased at a Glory Quartermaster that is used as a building component of crafting buildings. Each upgrade of a crafting station requires additional Privileges. Privileges are tradeable.
Required for:
- Farm
- Mine
- Lumbermill
- Tailoring and Leatherworking Workshop
- Armoursmithing Workshop
- Weapon Forging Workshop
- Engineering Workshop
- Inn (Cooking and Herbalist workshop)
Economic Points
Economic points are used for placing the following items:
- Vendors
- Crafting Workshops
- Market
- Castle Keeper (Tent of Guild Points)
- Crafting District (other objects can clip this object's footprint IF the district is placed first)
Please note that these objects usually have a much larger footprint than they seem to and will probably require more space than it appears.
Fortification Points
Fortification Points are used to buy defensive structures including:
- Walls
- Gates
- Towers
The following structures are not "constructed" but simply turned On or Off n the Upgrade menu at the Architect's table and cost 5 Fortification points each.
- Bars on Gate Door
- Oil on Walls
- Ballistas
Rules
Although the freebuild pieces have been designed to limit unintended structures, players should keep the following rules in mind when it comes to freebuilding. If the game should allow building in the following ways, it should be reported to the developers so that it can be corrected. Failure to correct any unintended building can result in the entire province being wiped of all constructed buildings and objects.
- Gatehouse entrances and exits may not be blocked fully or partially by any object.
- Placing decoration items to snag siege equipment is not allowed.
- Nothing may not be placed directly in front of the bastion stairs.
- Trebuchets may not be placed on walls, buildings, gatehouses, workshops, workstations, or on top of the bastion. They should be on flat ground.
Mark for Destruction
IF you want to destroy any freebuild structure at your guild province, use the architect's table to "Mark for Destruction". Once it has been marked, it will take 10x damage from siege equipment, enabling it to be destroyed faster. Use your ram located near the farm, and any ballistas nearby to destroy the object. Only the guild and vice leader can mark a structure for destruction.
Building Tips
- Don't forget about Splash Damage. Enemy siege equipment damages what it's aiming at as well as ALL structures touching that one.
- Pass guild leadership around as necessary when building so that it can continue if the current guild leader needs to log off.
- Walls, towers, and gatehouses can go from tier 1 to tier 6. Each tier costs more fortification points than the last. Think carefully about how much HP you really want a structure to have and what you can afford with the Fortification Points pool you have.
- Deleting players furnaces can only be done by the guild leader and is sometimes necessary when editing a castle's layout. Deleting a furnace will result in ALL materials in that furnace being permanently deleted and unrecoverable. Warn guildmates to empty furnaces if there will be castle construction going on.
- Any guild member can put materials into a scaffold to construct it.
- For beginner builders, start with a level 1 bastion, and don't bother pumping it up to higher levels until your build is basically finished. You may need to delete and move it several times before you're happy. You'll be wasting a lot of materials if you upgrade your bastion too far too early. Remember you cannot build anything else if you don't have a bastion up. If you delete your bastion, you MUST rebuild it before you can build anything else.
- It is a good idea to place a Siege Engineer in your castle. You can spawn defensive Trebuchets with it. Remember if enemies access it, they can also use this and build trebuchets too!
