Crafting is the heart of the player-run economy. Raw materials are used in items, armor, and weapons which lose durability as they are used. Foods, crops, and other consumables decay naturally over time, so crafters and gatherers are always in demand.

Players can level up as many crafting and gathering skills as they wish on one character.

Forestry, Fishing, and Farming - Grow crops, catch fish, and chop wood

Cooking and Herbalism - Cook meals, create powerful potions, and brew beer

Tailoring and Leatherworking - Make light and medium armor

Engineering - Make tools and building materials

Mining and Metallurgy - Mine and refine ores and minerals

Armoursmithing - Create medium and heavy armours and shields

Weapon Forging - Create melee and ranged weapons

Artificing - Unused

Workshops

Crafting workshops are labeled by profession and can be found within the walls of nation controlled territories and resource gathering areas like farms, mines and lumber mills. These can go to +3 quality.

Every crafting recipe has a preferred workshop, displayed at the top of the crafting menu. Using the correct workshop will always yield vastly better results and more crafting experience than using the wrong one or not using one at all.

Crafting workshops and locations:

  • Tailoring and Leatherworking - Temples, Castles, and Forts
  • Armorsmithing - Temples, Castles, and Forts
  • Weapon Forging - Temples, Castles, and Forts
  • Cooking and Alchemy - Inns inside temples, castles, and forts
  • Metallurgist - Mines
  • Engineering - Lumber Mills
  • Villager - Farms

Guild provinces have the capability to build +4 workshops and build some of them wherever they choose. Crafting at the highest quality workshop possible is always the best choice because it will yield higher quality results.

Upgrading Workshops The crafting workshop level is determined by its current upgrade level and the location’s efficiency level. Both of these can be improved at the architect's table inside the bastion building. Low bastion efficiency will cause the workshop to temporarily downgrade until is improved.

Any player may upgrade a crafting workshop or fill the bastion to improve the level of the crafting workshops.

Obsolete Crafting Workshops Obsolete crafting stations including stumps, bowyer's tables, sawdust barrels and leather tanning racks, are not used outside the capital city and cannot be upgraded. It is recommended to avoid using them due to their low quality and limited recipe compatibility.

Crafting Chance

Crafting chance is a variable that determines the quality range of crafting results. At a crafting workshop, the crafting chance for each quality level (+0 to +6) is displayed in the upper right hand corner.

Crafting chance is calculated by the following factors: the crafting level of the item being made, your crafting level, the crafting workshop level, the Bastion efficiency level, your mentor points, your nation’s Deadly Harvest Crafting Chance bonus, the Territory bonus, and any consumable items affecting crafting chance such as cards or alchemy items. Making sure as many of these variables are as high as possible before crafting will yield the best results. Remember that guild provinces have the best crafting workshops.

Component pieces such as nails, leather straps, hide glue, and billets do not have quality ratings. But they do benefit from being made at the proper workshop and taking into consideration all the crafting factors because it will result in crafting larger amounts of these items. Equippable bags do not have quality levels.

Crafting chance goes down as the quality level goes up, meaning there is always a higher chance to make a +4 than a +5, for example.

Crafting chance at 100% indicates you have surpassed the possibility to make that quality and your base result will be above that. So, look for the first non-100% marker as an indicator of the range of possibilities. Aside from a guarantee of not crafting low tier items, there is no way to guarantee specific quality results.
