Durability

Durability reflects the wear and tear on armor, weapons, tools, and mounts. Higher tier items have higher starting durability. Items lose durability each time they are used. Every attack, block or gathering action will reduce the durability of equipped items.

Repairing

Repairing may be done at any vendor NPC. NPCs can repair 50% of the lost durability, and the new maximum durability will become whatever the item was repaired to. It is not possible to fully repair an item. However, it is possible to reinforce an item instead of repairing it. If the item has never been repaired before, it can be reinforced which will fully restore it's durability.
