The Total Damage statistic has three factors:

1. The weapon's base damage.
2. The character's damage multiplier which is based on equipped armor.
3. The character's strength and/or dexterity - depending on the weapon.

Some weapon damage modifiers are based on strength, like axes. Some are based on a combination of strength and dexterity, like swords. Other weapons, like bows and daggers, are based almost entirely on dexterity.
