Forestry is part of the Character Development system. Press ' (quote) to access it and then select Forestry from the list.
Forestry is used for gathering and finishing wood. To earn access to higher tiers of wood and woodcutting axes, begin by using a gray Novice's axe on Common Wood.
Horizontal progression speeds up the time to chop a piece of wood and increases the amount of gathered material.
Vertical progression unlocks access to chop new, higher quality wood and unlocks higher quality woodcutting axes.
See Character Development for information on how to earn and use various types of XP in this skill.
Types of Wood
There are five tiers of wood:
- Common
- Quality
- Decent
- Great
- Excellent
Different tiers of wood are used in recipes including weapons, tents, shields, and bows. Wood can be used to build and upgrade city structures and guild castles. Sometimes wood can be used raw and sometimes it must be finished, depending on the recipe.
Gathering Wood
Wood can be gathered at Lumbermills and in the wilderness. Higher-tier wood has fewer spawns and is located in more heavily contested territory, such as castles at the loot zone. Check the in-game map for resource cards at each location.
Woodcutting Axes
Axes for gathering wood are made in the Engineering crafting profession
- Novice's Axe - Gather Common Wood
- Apprentice's Axe - Gather Decent Wood
- Journeyman's Axe - Gather Quality Wood
- Craftsman's Axe - Gather Great Wood
- Master's Axe - Gather Excellent Wood
Finishing Wood
After wood is gathered, it needs to be finished with oil or suet to preserve it at the Carpentry Table. If it is not finished, it will rot after 30 days. Rotten wood can be used as a fuel that burns a little longer than billets.
Recipe locations for Finished Wood
- Finished Common Wood - Known at Character Creation
- Finished Quality Wood - Capital City Merchant
- Finished Decent Wood - Temple Quartermaster (This recipe only shows when bastion efficiency is level 3 and the guardhouse on the OUTER level is upgraded to 3).
- Finished Great Wood - Glory Quartermaster Misc Recipe loot box
- Finished Excellent Wood - Glory Quartermaster or Misc Recipe loot box
Carpentry Table
Wood is finished at the Carpentry Table, one of the craftable Constructions which can placed in the open world, and then filled with materials and left to produce finished products on its own, much like a furnace. Place a finishing oil and untreated logs into the table and click the paintbrush button.
You can place in multiple oils and woods at the same time for finishing and do batches. HOWEVER, be careful how your oils are being used, because there is some overlap with quality between tiers of wood, and you may find yourself spending Crafting Oil to finish Common Logs when you could simply use much cheaper oil. Use the paintbrush to select the tier of oil you want to use (don't just automatically click it to 3 if you don't want to use Crafting Oil).
Finishing Oils
Finishes come in different qualities:
- Q1: Oil
- Q2: Suet
- Q3: Crafting Oil
Finish quality acceptable to create each wood:
- Finished Common Wood : 1-3
- Finished Decent Wood :1-3
- Finished Quality Wood: 1-3
- Finished Great Wood: 2-3
- Finished Excellent Wood: 3
