Disassembly is the dismantling of items. Disassembling items yields materials, crafting XP, and a chance to learn the recipe of the item. The material return for disassembling is low, but the crafting XP is considerable especially the first time you disassemble an item.  
  
 
To disassemble something, right click it and select "disassemble." There will be text indicating if it's possible to learn the recipe or not. If, upon disassembly, you get a message that says "Critical Success" it means you have learned the recipe. You may need to relog to see this recipe in your crafting list.
